Those who are returning to Scotland after a career furth of Scotia might want to explore trhe Scottish Government's scheme for first time home buyers. SHARED EQUITY - not the same as shared ownership. bascically you buy part of the equity of an eligible house and the governement holds the other part.
I can tell you more if you pm me. There is no kicback for me - I merely want to help emigres ! Best would be to send me an e-mail address.

Retirement is good. All I need is my youthful vigour and good health ! |

Aye well that's true for us all. But from your posts you are half way there with no cigarettes or booze. So plenty of fresh veg and a brisk constitutional walk every day should prove to be a good restorative. As for youthful vigour well the internet abounds with come ons for cialis and viagra. However, an acquaintence I know suggests that you stay well clear of that Indian generic rubbish that is produced 'on the cheap' better not to scrimp in that department I can tell you.
So there you have it Mr Braveheart, the surefire way to liven up your Derby and Joan evenings.

For those looking to retirement in Scotland I would suggest looking at SHARED EQUITY as one way iof getting a house. That way you can get place for as little as 38,000 pounds. Or take my route and rent a place !
Have a look at this

My only regret about my retirement is that I should have done it earlier. There is (or CAN BE) life after KSA ! |

Hi Scot. Would have loved to join you for tea were it not for the matter of some 5,000 or so miles. Looks an excellent spot for retirement. Must say I was surprised, on looking at how to get to the hotel, to realise my fairly considerable meanderings north of the border haven't taken me there previously. I am beginning to consider 'eventual' retirement in the UK and that shared equity scheme looks interesting, though it may well have expired before I arrive back on those shores on a permanent basis. Still, would be grateful for any links, info and so forth. P. |

Scotland is indeed sui generis, quite different from the land south of Tweed and Solway !
I await with interest more inquiries from those interested in retiring to a Scottish island !

How's the weather now on Bute? I'll be there soon and probably buying a flat. |

The Isle of Bute is not a bad place to be. I do not think I could handle the place as a 20-year-old, but as a tired old ex-traveller and ex-EFL-bum it is a good place for me in my dotage.
