This is a disturbing attack on free speech...

Authorities in Chihuahua in northern Mexico have banned the popular band Los Tigres del Norte from performing in the city after it played a song which officials said glorifies crime.
The city authorities had issued a ban on narcocorridos, songs praising drug trafficking, in all public spaces.
They said the Tigres del Norte broke that ban when they performed their song "Queen of the South". |
Reina del Sur...that came out a decade ago and they've performed the song countless times. If Chihuahua authorities are concerned about narcocorridos communicating information, then they should focus on more recent recordings. This is a serious assault on freedom and I can't imagine it would stand a court challenge.
Side note - police in Mexico have long used narcocorridos to help solve crimes. |

What a joke. Authorities turn a blind eye to mass graves and public decapitations but take a stance on a song. |
