Are TEFLERS in the Midddle East apprehensive about the possibility of a joint US/Israel attack on Iran? Im not sure its going to happen but wouldnt like to be in Kuwait or Saudi Arabia if it does. Mad dinner jacket has said allies of the Satans will be punished. What do you think?

Difficult to find, but here is a very long, but common sense (may it succeed as it didn't in Iraq) article about the situation:

Our American cousins really should have listened to that advice from Ike about the Military Industrial Complex. And our own dear masters in London should have stuck to Harold Wilsons decision to withdraw doe "East of Suez"

Dear sharter,

Yup - and then we would have all been destroyed by Saddam's Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Oh, wait a minute . . . .

John

Exactly...

Or at least do something related to the problem. Afghanistan was probably inevitable, but most Americans seem to think we were attacked by the taliban, and of course, we were not. So, let's punish a whole country for the actions of Saudi expat and his minions...

And I suspect that American imperialism will die of bankruptcy there just as the USSR did. What is that old saying? Those that don't know history are doomed to repeat it...

IIRC, Saddam had, and used poison gas on the Kurds in Halabja.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halabja_poison_gas_attack

He also used against the Iranians in his dustup with them.

So, isn't poison gas a WMD?

During Gulf War I, we sat on top of a hangar in the Eastern Province of the KOSA, drinking Sid, and watching the Scud Missiles arcing into the area. We had our gas masks and protective suits at the ready, but were a bit concerned about what was in those scuds.

It was a fireworks show that even HESN would have loved. (If he hadn't scurried off in the night to Paris or Geneva with the rest of the other cockroach Sheiks and Princes from the Gulf countries).

Dear 2buckets,

I was in Riyadh when we got Scudded. Did you put on your gas mask? I can;t recall anyone ever doing so when we were up on the roof watching the fireworks.

"Small number of degraded chemical weapons recovered
On June 21, 2006 the U.S. House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence released key points from a classified report from the National Ground Intelligence Center on the recovery of chemical munitions in Iraq. The report stated that "Coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent." However, all are thought to be pre-Gulf War munitions.

These munitions meet the criteria of weapons of mass destruction, according to the commander of the National Ground Intelligence Center. "These are chemical weapons as defined under the Chemical Weapons Convention, and yes ... they do constitute weapons of mass destruction," Army Col. John Chu told the House Armed Services Committee. The munitions addressed in the report were produced in the 1980s, Maples said. Badly corroded, they could not currently be used as originally intended, though agent remaining in the weapons would be very valuable to terrorists and insurgents, Maples said."

"Bush knew Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction
Salon exclusive: Two former CIA officers say the president squelched top-secret intelligence, and a briefing by George Tenet, months before invading Iraq."

Now, North Korea - there's a nation with WMDs AND the ability to send them more than a few hundred miles.

John
