From the little info you have provided, I'd say without a doubt, it is a well-worn scam...

It's always a tip-off when someone living in an Anglophone country, surrounded daily by millions of native English speakers, offers to import someone from another Anglophone country at great expense, to tutor his fictional family Shocked

It's not the first time around for this little scam.

Wow, no - don't quit your job for this!
Maybe we need a sticky here for this particular scam, as it seems to come up pretty regularly.....

But what is the scam? I don't understand... Is it just some man getting his jollies from messing with a teacher?

I found a very similar one--this time a Chinese doctor in the UK who was seeking a tutor for his wife and two children...

So what could the scam possibly be?

They will ask you to wire over some money for 'administrative costs' or 'visa application' or maybe 'a deposit to secure a flat'. Whatever. You'll not see that money again and the fictitious Dr won't be traced either.

Send me your email address and I'll demonstrate : )

Scam alert:
http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=25540

I hope no-one thinks this job advertised under international jobs here is serious! Apart from the huge list and overall level of English displayed, this should be a dead-giveaway:
*Sales Staff
*Female Masseurs
*Chefs (snack bar)
*Bar Staff
*Waiting on staff

What? In a high school???? I suppose its not a good idea to give these scammers too many tips on where theyre going wrong.

Edit: I see the advert has gone. For the record, NO high school in the U.K (or anywhere, I think) would ever advertise jobs on an ESL job board - not for any subject and that includes ESL jobs. Schools go through their own, formal processes to get staff from within the country. I think it'd also be rare to see an advert from a genuine international school here.

I think after a while most of us develop a "Scam-detector". If in doubt send me a check for US$500 and I will check it out for you.

Yeah, but a lot still get taken in.

I hope a bargain discount is on offer for that US$500 - detecting scams AND doing some praying for mortal souls. Two for the price of one...
