Im trying to improve my Spanish but all the radio I ever hear here has loads of ads, noise and music. I'm looking for a radio with news, conversation etc without songs........I normally listen to BBC radio 4 or talksport for example. Any ideas?

Where are you?

There are public options like BBC 4 but it depends on what part of the country you are in, some have very low ranges. Of course, most are online now, like http://cortv.com.mx/web/am.php from Oaxaca so with internet you can listen to them anywhere.

When I was in Morelia--way back in 2004--I frequently listened to Radio UNAM ( http://www.radiounam.unam.mx/site/ ) which was repeated there by the Local UNAM extension. Or Radio Nicolaita which was from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo ( http://radionicolaita.umich.mx/ )

At that time I mostly didn't have anyone to speak to in English (or Spanish for that matter) as I was taking care of two infants and I really enjoyed the programing on both stations and certainly think it improved my listening comprehension to have them on all day.

I imagine Radio UNAM transmitts in Guadalajara, but couldn't find any sort of list of frequencies on their website.

I did however find this link.

I listen to Radio Imagen on an FM radio chanel. They are national. They have programs about news, science, and other topics.

You can listen on the internet too at:
www.imagen.com.mx

You'll have to find out what radio station in your city. I couldn't find it on the website, but you might be better at that, or you could ask a Mexican.

They also have an English news show called, "Living in Mexico" by Ana Maria Salazar.

But besides that one English news broadcast, the rest is mostly Spanish talk.
