Thanks for posting.
Everybody I've talked to will not be surprised by this. I think the flooding situation is long term do to weather changes and unfortunately for Thais the government was too dumb to prepare for this year. |

Yes, flooding is already causing problems this year (in the South right now), but the issue people who are considering Thailand for work or travel should also focus on is the ongoing political situation.
In any case, don't just show in the middle of a disaster. Stay informed about the situation on a daily basis from a variety of news sources.
It may not affect you directly but the toll on the economy could be significant.

| Flooding is happening everywhere in the world...not only in the LOS...those concerned should invest in a row boat or canoe to take them to work especially in the rainy season! This is also a cheaper way to travel to nearby schools where you might teach and one enjoys exercise in the process. Alternatively you could also take a river boat especially in BKK as their are so many waterways around that connect to nearby roads and/or sois. |

The river boats travel along the river.
The waterways throughout the city are called klongs. There is a klong boat system that runs from Wat Sribungrueng (near the Mall Bangkapi) to Pratunam (right near Central World and BTS Chidlom). It also runs from Pratunam all the way to Golden Mount (about 15 minutes walk to Khao San Road). |

| So what is the concensus here in the Thailand room, does it flood or does it not flood? I'm wondering if I'm going to enjoy hearing about my school being underwater. |

Damn the drought next April... the dams in the north have been emptied (down to about 25% of capacity) and have lots of room to catch (and hold) the rains.
There shouldn't be any serious flooding this year in central Thailand and BKK and its surrounds should stay dry but it might suck if you are a rice farmer and need the irrigation for your summer rice crop.
