400zł ish ZUS (national insurance/health for the first 2 years)
200zł accountant
up to 1700zł flat
180zł ish monthly travel card
1000zł food (rough figure)
|
-no phone/internet bills?
-alcohol costs should be mentioned. it's a national law that expats must drink incessantly
-it's also worth mentioning, because as you stated it takes a couple years to establish better business dealings, that ZUS increases 500zl a month after that 2 year honeymoon is over so if you go from making say 60zl a lesson to 70zl a lesson, for the first 50 lessons you teach that month, you're actually making the same amount of money. |

Started a family back in 2004 in Katowice (beautiful city btw). My daughter was born in Poland at a time the Polish government were paying citizens to have a baby boom. We were paid something like 4000 zloty just to have a baby
In reality only managed it because my wife at the time was an accountant, so she got me started up freelance, and basically cooked the books on a monthly basis. You can't believe the stuff she pulled off just to earn us extra money to get by. Help from her family etc blah blah.
So unless things have changed over the last 6 odd years I would say its definitely a struggle.
Always boils down to the magic question of; What do you call a basic standard of life? |

Zus isn't 500zl a month. This is a copy of what my accountant sends me every month for my ZUS payment.
Składki ZUS za maj 2012 r.
1. Konto 51 - 674,88 zł.
2. Konto 52 - 254,55 zł.
3. Konto 53 - 51,83 zł.
Not 500zl a month!!!!! It's 981.26zl |

If you actually read the post correctly (a not unreasonable skill for an English Teacher to have) you'll see that he says it increases 500pln a month. |

But because you're working for a UK quango, you have to pay UK taxes, UK national insurance (health and pension), student loans (if you have any) & any other deductions that the UK government deem fit & it's even possible you have to pay local taxes too.
|
This part is incorrect. BC contract teachers do not work for a British Organisation on attachment, they work for a local branch on a Polish contract, paying Polish taxes and Zus.
The suggestion that take home pay was 6-7k is also inaccurate, it was higher than that, I didn't have to pay 40-45% deductions..that is rather excessive lol... |

An easy to read guide would make sense, however

Which is why you have to go up in the world. The 2 year period is devastatingly effective at getting rid of inefficient small businesses. |

Yeah, never paid 200zl a month for ZUS, the minimum payment for ZUS is around 500zl and then increases to around 1000zl.... |

Did some digging and found some old ZUS stuff from my accountant:
1. Konto 51 - 113,05 zł
2. Konto 52 - 243,39 zł
3. Konto 53 - ~50zl (I can't remember the amount but max was 50zl)
You're still looking at 400zl a month for your first 2 years. |

It's good to see you aren't so busy busting your a$$ these days and you have time to produce massive a tome on how to climb that greasy pole in Pole-land.
I won't nit-pick your figures or your theory (mostly sound, IMHO). My only question is: Who would want to put in the 3 years or hard labor in order to then work even harder and still earn a relatively modest sum by international standards?
If someone's really willing to work so hard, or even if not but just wants money fast, he's better off going to SE Asia or the Middle East and get fairly compensated for it.
Granted, Poland's a nicer place to live. But working so hard, you'd never have a chance to enjoy it anyway.

The short answer is "yes". Even while making half of what was mentioned before. |

What amount are you referring to? A lot of figures were thrown around earlier. |

Just spotted this rather offensive remark. How the f*** does the poster know what I spend my money on ? Maybe I am stockpiling Korans and AK-47s !
In fact I am far away from Polska and my old stomping ground of the Middle East, having retired to a Scottish island. Hardly a TEFLer to be seen, thank the Lord !
