The strange thing is that you are still thinking in Fahrenheit after 14 years in Mexico! Even we quaint old Brits of my generation (I'm nearly 50) now use Celsius, I can't relate to those temperatures in Fahrenheit! Once a gringa, always a gringa! |
I don't think it's strange at all--because ambient temperture reading is not at all a part of my life in Mexico. There are no ambient thermometers that I know of in town--I'm sure the weather station has one, but the temp is never posted or given out on the local radio. The forcast here is for hot, warm, cool, or cold. Over night lowes are measured in what plants were killed, not a temp. (for example--got my banana tree, got my banana and the bouganvillia, etc.) People talk about ice on the car or the ground. No one ever says, it was X degrees last night. I don't think anyone knows. In the US (I don't know how much you've travelled in the US) every bank displays the current temperature on a big digital sign in it's parking lot. Most cars in the US know have the temperature in their dashboard display. The TV and RADIO news updates tell the current temp and the focasted highs and lows pretty much every hour.
Now, body temperature is another thing. When my kids have fever that's measured in Celcius. One of them once had 42, which I know is very high, but I don't even know that that would be in Fahrenheit. |

You left a couple off the list (fellow Ottawan, Guy, will recognize these):
-40C You only get one try at putting the key in the door. After that, your hand freezes and you cant hold the key any more.
-30C Indoor recess. |
