I also have about 25 years to go... Unless I can settle for a frugal life, earlier. Friends got a vegetable patch outside Rothesay and are living off that and forest mushrooms. I need my meat though |

in most of my years EFLing in far-flung places I never really thought much about where I was going to spend my declining years. "The Lord will provide." So far that has worked. Better not to try to plan things too tightly ! Plans usually fail. |

Not sure about the Lord providing, but totally agree that plans usually fail. Best to have a variety of flexible options and an ability to shrug the shoulders if/when none of them work out! |

One of the delights of retiring to a spot near Glasgow -

Of course the streets covered in vomit and dogshit are the downside.

After my travels in the summer of 2012 I have now resolved that my next great journey will be that which takes me over the River Styx. |

Were your travels so bad?
Or they were so good, you know you can't get better? |

A combination of the Afflictions Like Unto Those of The Prophet Job (ie medical "issues") and squabbling with the dearly beloved. |

I retired in 2011 aged 64. With the benefit of hindsight I wish I had done it years ago !
I do know ex-colleagues who are slaves of alcohol, with a gambling habit and an addiction toi nicotine who wish they could go back to the classroom.

I couldn't agree more. If the scottish don't want the employment and economic benefits gained from having a naval base (out of only three in the UK), somewhere in England such as Plymouth will. Scotland's loss will be England's gain. Cutting your noses off to spite your faces is fine by the English. |
