After diving into hundreds of posts to try to learn as much about the NET scheme as possible, I ran across a few comments that had me confused.

Some claimed that applicants have been refused because certs in the US don't meet minimum requirements.

Does state certification in the US count as QTS or would I have to obtain a PGDE?

I already have the BA in English Lit and MA in TESOL and want to make sure that I pursue the correct program.

Any American NETS or people in the know willing to share their experiences?

Rising,

I would think you'd need a PGDE to become certified with a college of teachers in your home state or any state across the US. I doubt that TESOL would be sufficient.

Not American, so I don't know for sure.

You could always try googling the contact number for your home state/or state in which you did your university degree and call the college of teachers and ask what the requirements are to be registered. That's what I did.

State certification from the US is fine. As it says in the NET blurb, applicants require a PGDE or equivalent. They don't expect teachers from other jurisdictions to take a PGDE.

My wife is from the US and she's been a NET since 1999 ...

I've kind of got a state cert, it allows me to teach in public schools, but since I never have it's not a license, just a cert, Still valid though. I wonder if that would qualify me.

Perhaps the best way of viewing it is:

Are you qualified to teach in a regular primary or secondary school in your home country?

If the answer is yes, then you're probably qualified for the NET prog.
