I'm an American with a Jewish sounding family name. I am also a qualified teacher, who happens to be an atheist. Would the fact I have a Jewish sounding last name keep me from getting a job, or visa, in Saudi? |

No idea Glen. I do know that the US Govt has just advised all US nationals to leave Saudi. Not that I always recommend following US Govt advice but at the moment it could be a wise move (or non-move, if you catch my drift) |

Probably not, but proclaiming yourself an atheist wouldn't do you much good. I suggest you write "Christian" or something equally easy to comprehend on the line next to "Religion". |

Write "atheist" in the religon column and they'll ban you for life. Put in Christian.
Somebody may catch on to your name and not hire you but they'd have to be both clued up and prejudiced.

Surprisingly you will come across companies and people in ksa with Jewish names. Kaplan Educational Center does preparation for TOEFL and GMAT etc. I have come across Cohens and Greenbergs.
On the visa form though I would counsel against putting doen "Jewish" under religion (or "atheist"), say you are a Christian. these days theyno longer ask for a certificate to prove your religious affiliation. |

We had a teacher, whose initial visa application was turned down because the doctor who'd provided the medical was called Dr Israel: true story.
However, don't know the answer in this case, sorry. |
