Is anybody free-lancing in Morocco? From what I read the country seems open to Americans and lots of people seem interested in learning English. Are there any possibilities? Where are they? What are the visa hassles? Can money be saved?

Well yes since there is the American Language Center in several cities.
I think there is a website.

Thanks for the answer, and yes, they have some 10 or so schools and some of them have websites. If anyone knows something about getting a visa when one is not employed by a school I would love to hear.

Never heard about getting a visa without a job.
Besides marrying a Moroccan, not sure how, except by being really rich.

If you have debt, Morocco is not a good place to be. The pay is not that good.
The dirham is tied to the dollar. At least now, the dollar is not strong.

As far as I remember, the ALC is in Casablanca, Tangier, Rabat, Fez, Marrakech, Agadir... Meknes too.
A few more too. The main ALC is in Rabat.

Other than the ALC I guess there is BPEC too. They are in Casablanca.
I used to work for English First but I do not know if they are still there.
I got the job since I had experience with the TOEFL.
Amideast is another possibility. They are in Casablanca, near Dar America, which has a library of books from the USA.

I remember arriving in Casablanca just with a passport and applying to get a visa while in Morocco. Then I was able to get the carte de sejour.
I remember my boss wanting me to pay for my visa but I convinced him to do it since I was broke at that time.

Morocco is not a place for EFL freelancing..jobs are hard to come by and teacher wages have been stagnant as well as stubbornly low for decades. It is however a great place to visit for a holiday! Good luck in your search! Smile
