I recently resigned fom an elementary school. I have a teachers license in ESL k-12. Seven years experiance. I f you wonder why i resigned then you dont know what's going on in American schools now.
I am looking for a "real" tefl job, not a backpacker job ( I wish I was that young). I dont want to go tp Asia and I hear they're picky about age and health. LAtin AMerica not reliable and low pay.
I've always gotten along well with middle eastern people and tried to learn some Arabic. Does anyone know if these postings about Saudi or elsewhere are legit? One company said I would have to travel to London for an interview. That would be a real waste if it didnt turn out. Any suggestions? ive heard the middle east was boring but I'm not supposed to drink anyway. Looks like one could get paid the equivalant of two years salary if one had lodgings included. I heard you could get a little time off with air fare.
Thanks

This is very late in the year for job hunting. All of the good employers are already bringing in the teachers that they hired last spring.
You have the credentials and the experience, but time is not on your side. The best place for you to find positions is at one of the job fairs that are held around the US for the International School circuit. One thing to look for is to get a job at the schools where the embassy kids are attending. That means that they are legit and usually better organized. That said, it is too late for this academic year.
Second best option is TeachAway in the UAE. While I normally do not recommend recruiter/contractors, their reputation is pretty good, as are the pay and benefits. But, I do believe that they require you to travel to their interviews.
You mention "age and health." The closer that you are to 60, the harder it is to break into the Gulf market. And they do require that you are healthy and able to tolerate the extreme heat of this part of the world.
Yes, there are other jobs, but be sure to check out the employers thoroughly on here and on google. In the K-12 market, they are significantly more horrible employers than there are good ones.

You are probably over the age limit to start. |

There's plenty of schools in Latin America that would fulfill your criteria (as was pointed out for other regions - look for the schools where the diplomats send their kids). |

Too old to be hired for any desirable job in KSA or the Gulf. You might get a job at Uncle Abdullah's Language Academy but my advice is STAY AWAY. Try China.

Normally over air-conditioned, but as everyone has pointed out, most if not all employers won't hire anyone over 60 (and some cut off in the mid-late 50s. Sadly I can tell you that anyone that will hire you is guaranteed to be someone you definitely do NOT want to be involved with...
So I return to the option of the ISS (and there may be others... not sure) job fairs. This method will help you avoid wasting time with those that won't hire your (our) age group. If you are not familiar with them. Google up International School Services.
