I just found out I'll be going to Taichung for six months and would appreciate any answers to the following questions:
1. Do you find the city to be expat friendly? By that I mean, are the people for the most part accepting of foreigners? I had some negative experiences in that regard in Korea so hope it's better in Taiwan. Do people working in shops usually have some English?
2. I will be provided with a rental car but wonder if it's worth using in the city. Is the traffic there problematic? How about public transportation--inexpensive and/or convenient? Is there a subway system?
3. Are there many shops for laundry/dry cleaning? What are the approximate costs? I don't wish to pay the rates at the hotel where I'll be staying.
That's enough for now. I know the questions are sort of general but don't have enough knowledge about the city to probe deeper. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are traveling around the city a scooter is better. If you want to see Taiwan on the weekend and travel to Kenting, Taipei, Haulian a car will be useful.
3. There are places where you can get dry cleaning done. I don't know the price for clothes. I had a suit dry cleaned before. |

Thanks for the advice! I'm leaving tomorrow and will hopefully find out for myself once there. |
