Hi all,
I am moving to Ankara next month for at least a year and recently bought an iPhone 4S unlocked simply so I can use it in Turkey. However, a lot of people have been telling me it still will not work. Is that the case? I am willing to register it on my passport upon entrance and paying the fee for it. Any info on this would be great.
Thanks and have a fantastic summer! |

When I brought in my Galaxy Tab, I didn't have to register it on entrance, but I did have to register it in the first month. Ignorance of the rules meant that I when I did try to register it (about a month and a half after entering; one month after I bought my first SIM card my phone was blocked from Turkish cell networks), I had to go to some government office or other and run around for two or three hours in order to get a special form. When I had the form it was as easy as if I'd registered it in the first place.
A good phone store will register your phone automatically, but employers most phone stores are lazy (well, let's be honest, a SIM card costs about 30 lira, registering the phone takes about 20 minutes, and you have to wonder how much profit they make on that phone card), and will neglect to mention that you need to register it. Just make sure to buy your SIM in the first month and be very clear that you need to register your phone.
Regards,

Hi. I was wondering about the same thing. I recently heard about having to register your phone on your passport and I'm unclear about when to do this. Do you register at the airport upon entrance into the country or after you get a Turkish sim card? If you register your phone through the phone store, what exactly must you do to show this on your passport? A little confused! Thanks for the help |

Melissabeth:
Unless things have changed, you register it at the phone store. They need to see your passport to make sure that it hasn't been more than 30 days since you entered the country.
