While not directly related to teaching per se, this is an issue for British TEFLers abroad.
A few weeks ago I was in Spain and Hertz almost refused to let me hire the car I'd reserved because the only driving licence I have is an old (30 years old!) UK driving licence. They said I should get hold of an up-to-date licence. However, having just checked online it seems to get a new UK licence I should be resident in the UK - but I live in HK.
An international licence isn't a good solution as it only lasts a year. What to do? Tks in advance! |

A couple of years ago, I managed to get one of the new ones while visiting the UK .. if you're going to be visiting the place for a few weeks then it's possible .. I think mine took 2 weeks
Lat week I updated the address online to reflect my parents' new address, and the new one came within 5 days .. |

Tks. Unfortunately that won't work for me as I won't be back in the UK till next summer, and probably not for longer than a week or two at most. I can get a HK licence easy enough, apparently - they look pretty crap but hopefully it will help. I guess Hongkongers must hire cars sometimes! |

Unfortunately, I can't remember if I had to be present to sign for receipt of the licence or not .. my folks lived in a small village and the local postie knew them, so he could well have let them sign for it ..
Sorry .. |

I did it online about 3 months back.
I'm also registered at my folks in the UK, so that helped. I did the forms online and had the new licence posted to them. Just normal mail I think, no signing. Then they sent to me.
Have you already tried here? :-

Any use? |
