ls650 Thanks for clarifying that for me. PGCE no thanks, I have friends who have done that - that's a seriously miserable year of training.
thanks again |

I've been told that IALF Sby are looking for teachers at the moment.
Not sure what the salary is these days as the teachers I used to know there have all moved on. I believe it was around 10 mill but beware, you get no help with accomodation, you have to find it and pay for it yourself. Or that used to be the case there. That can be a hassle in Sby, as you probably know Team Papua, because you usually have to take on a 2 year contract on a house and pay it all up front.
Also that kind of reduces the salary to something nearer what the other schools are paying but with free accom.
PS Team Papua do I know you? I've been in Sby nearly 3 years - when did you leave? Good luck with the job hunt! |

many, many posts regarding earnings & living costs!
it really does depend what you want to do in Indonesia - if you want to go to Sangri-la every weekend to mix with the hookers & rich chinese it will cost you dearly, if you can limit this to once a week, then a few nights in a cheaper bar/cafe - eat a few indo meals, a few western meals & also eat at home, buy a motorbike (big initial outlay) and avoid taxis for the year that you are there...travel by train or bus, stay in cheap hotels when on vacation then you will have plenty. just avoid buying western goods as they are all imported & heavily taxed, so if you think you may need a camera or a laptop buy one before you go.
if you land with all the Mod-cons you need & enough to buy a bike i believe that you will be fine on condition that you have a place to move into. 7.000.000 inc housing is enough for all the above. of course if you need to get your own housing that is another thing entirely - 2 years advance rent
indonesia is like everywhere else - if you dont drink you can save...but where's the fun in that?
PS beware the dreaded BINTANG hangover |
