Hello,
I'm looking into GOOD international schools in Bangkok. Which of these schools should be at the top of my list when I start applying? I don't want a pseudo-international school, I'm sure you have an idea of what I'm talking about here...
Thanks for your help! |

Patana and Harrow are the top performing schools I think in Thailand. 95% are just micky mouse outfits....beware. |

The top three international schools in Bangkok (in no particular order) are:
http://www.nist.ac.th/
http://www.isb.ac.th/
http://www.patana.ac.th/
If you don't have real teaching qualifications (not a TEFEL or TOFEL certificate) don't bother applying. Even with real teaching qualifications competition for a teaching position in these schools is very high. Don't expect to just apply and get an interview, often you will require a history of work in schools of a similar quality. |

You can add Ruamrudee to the list. They are very competitive. They have the only university diplomas that Thais and westerners can recieve that are accredited in the West.

Also don't expect to get into any good international school, anywhere, without at least 5 years of experience teaching K12 in your own country. Getting into the top tier Internationals in Thailand, lots of luck, they are extremely competitive with high salaries. |

To the best of my understanding it is a good school. Personally, the religious affiliation at RIS would keep me away from them (not that I am qualified to work there anyways)
Is this a K-12 school or a University. How do you get a University diploma from a K-12 school?
Many different accrediting bodies in the "West". I would imagine that there would be differences between Can, US, Aus, Finland, Aus, Swe, NZ, Ger, etc.
A side note perhaps. On the subject of Thai University degrees being accepted, I know 2 people (one from USA and one from U.K.) who took degrees/PGDE in Thai Universities. Both are currently studying in Masters programs in Western (one in England and one in Australia) Universities (one distance and one on site). To the best of my knowledge, it is up to the individual institution (College/University) whether or not they will accept certain courses as equivalent to their own.
All that being said, most Thai Universities are still a joke as are most Thai schools. |

Look, a lot of schools that call themselves International in Thailand are junk. But your numbers are off. I would say its closer to 50-65% are a waste of time. The rest are just ok, are actually trying to get better or are in the top 5-10 and already very good schools. Still not great, but more realistic.
Believe it or not, there are good Thai teachers out there, and even good Thai admin, which means there are even some good Thai/Bi-lingual schools out there. Ive met them, worked with them, trained them , etc. Not the norm, but they are out there. |
