"The culture" in Oman, as far as we teachers are concerned, goes thusly (and as you said in another post): "To keep the young troublemakers off of the streets, by Royal Decree it is announced that [fill in the number] millions of Omani rial shall be put into the 'Education system,' so as to provide every Omani [who I want let in] with a 'university' education."

Oh, I understand it all right. I just cannot abide that "Logic."

You may not have noticed, but the purpose of education most everywhere is mainly to keep the kids off the streets since our laws don't allow us to employ them in hard labor anymore.

You are doing nothing here but raising your own blood pressure and wasting your time.

Such is your belief. OK.

(The discussion was about university students, not kids. And by "our laws," who is the "our" to whom you refer? ...not that it matters, as, again, 18 is the age of adulthood in most nations; an 18-year old cannot be employed without his/her consent, as they are, after all, legal adults.)[/quote]

Anyone under 20 is a kid in my book... and now you are merely being obtuse. Try actually reading the messages.
