Finished up my final teaching contract! Time to be on my own again.
Any idea how much deposit etc a landlord in New Delhi will want, in Noida for example or Dwarka, not South Delhi, but an inexpensive area, with a rent that's 10,000/rupees?
I don't want to share a flat because I'm a writer, finishing up a couple of books and family noise just kills me.
Any advice whatsoever is meat and drink to me. My visa will be ready in Oct. 2012. Thanks |

Normally, the deposit is one month's rent. There are some cases where the landlord is greedy/eccentric and might take 2 months rent as the deposit. Anything more than that, he's probably fleecing you.
If you're signing a lease agreement, it usually covers a period of 11 months.
It would be advisable to maybe take a local (friend/colleague) along for your negotiations with the landlord. They don't actually have to haggle on your behalf but their presence would help in you not getting ripped off.
Also, keep track of your overheads...landlords have a way of cheating you when it comes to electricity, maintenance charges etc. Make sure you have a separate meter(to measure electricity usage) for your flat and keep track of your meter readings. I know a few people who didn't and ended up paying nearly 50K for a month's electricity! |
