|
|
Hello everyone!
I plan to get a Delta qualification by next year and have been doing some research to prepare myself for it.
I was wondering if anyone here has done the Distance Delta (run by IH London)? How is it different from the onsite Delta? I have noticed that some onsite Delta courses are actually cheaper than the Distance one...why is that? And, will doing an onsite Delta turn out to be a better option in the long run (in terms of recruiter perception)?
The Distance Delta has a blended program where I will get some face time with the tutors. I'm strongly considering it because in case I'm accepted, my employer has agreed to cover part of the costs. But I'm worried that the prejudice against distance courses might lead to recruitment hassles in the future.
What do you think? |

DELTA is DELTA.
Offered /endorsed by and carries the name of Cambridge University.
It does NOT say distance or blended on the face of it.
Employers won't know and have no way to check whether it was the distance/blended version or the classroom variety unless you volunteer the information.

Employers in the Middle East are not usually imptessed by CELTAs and DELTAs. They want a MASTERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or even better a DOCTORATE ! |

Dear tttompatz,
"Employers won't know and have no way to check whether it was the distance/blended version or the classroom variety unless you volunteer the information."
Since tina20 wrote this:
". . . . in case I'm accepted, my employer has agreed to cover part of the costs."
Wouldn't potential future employers, seeing (by her resume/CV) that the Delta was acquired while tina20 was employed, be able to infer that it must be a distance/blended version?
Regards,
John |

Dear Johnslat
Not really. You can do the on-site course part-time over 6 to 9 months and still be in full-time employment.
Best wishes

tttompatz: I thought that since it's the "Distance Delta" - a different product - they would find some way of communicating that on the certificate. Thanks for the information.
scot47: No worries, Middle East is not on my list of places to work in anyway!
johnslat & sasha: Thank you! |

You mean that's the way it's represented on the certificate?
What I really wanted to know was, keeping all the factors like experience, qualifications etc constant, how would my application fare in comparison to a person who has done an onsite Delta? Would there be a bias in how my application is perceived by the recruiters or would that be more of a rarity than the norm? |

As far as I know, Celta and Delta qualifications are only marked with a Centre number code and a Course number code. There is nothing else to indicate how the course was delivered. I may be wrong or out-of-date on this, so perhaps someone who has completed the Delta by distance could confirm whether or not there is any marking on the paper diploma itself? |

I contacted International House and asked about this.
The woman who replied said that there is absolutely nothing written on the parchment paper (diploma) that indicates the DELTA was obtained either on campus or through distance study. |

Aha! Thanks for going to the trouble to check that out. All cleared up neatly. |

Except that my nephew has his distance DELTA diploma marked DL.
In front of me as I write !
Having said that, as far as I know, nobody has questioned him about it and he is happily employed overseas. |

I don't know what to say to that, then.
However, here is the coordinator's reply to my inquiry below:
Quote: |
The Diploma does not state which route you completed the Delta, so yes it is the same as the participants who complete the Delta face to face.
If you have any further queries, please let me know.

Och! Damn and blast it! Why is nothing ever so easy? A Delta is a Delta - no matter where it comes from. Why'd they have to muddy the waters by putting something on the diploma? It's not as though the observed lessons were distance, is it?
I need another drink to get through this... Hic! |

Aha! Yeah, I'm thinking about doing the DELTA and so I'm interested in this topic, too.
I'll e-mail her again and ask about the "DL" being printed on the diploma and if this is true. |
