I got a job offer but I found this in the contract:

Scam or not? I read that it was now illegal for employers to demand this. |

I definitely wouldn't agree to this. I don't think it's illegal if both agree.
Why not just go to China and then sign a contract? |

I'm not going anywhere without a decent job offer that I can trust. This one sounds dodgy as hell. Also the contract mentions 3500 "basic pay" and 7000 "lecture renumeration" for not more than 18 hours a week of lectures. It also mentions up to 50 "trainees" per class which sounds a bit high. Is this stuff normal? |

Stay clear. If in doubt, back out.
On another note, 50 students per class is on the high side, but not that unusual in China. I normally have a class of 30. Though on one occasion it's gone has high as 54. |

They are asking YOU to send THEM money BEFORE you come to China?
it could be worse - they could be selling shares in their first aircraft carrier |

Obviously I'm not taking that one.
I just got another offer from something called "Heidi English Language Training School", the contract is worded very similarly to the last one but there's no mention of a security deposit. This one only pays 7000 for a maximum of 110 teaching hours a month. That doesn't sound too good either. What do you think?
I really don't want to work for less than 10,000. |

I can tell you that anything more than 4 hours a day will tire you and burn you out quickly. |

Today I got another offer paying 10k a month including accommodation, up to 22 periods a week of 45 minutes. It's up in Inner Mongolia in a place called Ordos City. Sounds like the kind of place they'd send Chinese political dissidents.
Btw regarding the criminal record check, is a Basic Disclosure check in the UK sufficient for that? |

Who is stating you need a background check? I only know of Korea requiring that. |

I've read that Inner Mongolia requires it. But yes, for the most part, it isn't a requirement in China. |
