CANADIAN RISKED LIFE TO FILM KHOBAR EVENTS

AL-KHOBAR (SG)

A CANADIAN'S love for authenticating events with his video camera drove him to take the risk and move from his residence in Dhahran to the Oasis compound in Khobar's Golden Belt District where hostages were being held, according to the Arabic daily newspaper Al-Watan.

Jeff Gobins is a professor of English language in King Fahad University. He has traveled to many Arab countries. He has not even completed a year in his new job in King Fahad University in Dhahran. He was eager to go to the scene of events in order to authenticate the happening with his personal video camera. He shifted from one location to another in the Oasis compound in order to take shots of as many scenes as possible.

When asked if he had no fears in coming close to such sites where he could be killed by the terrorists, he said he has good relations with many Saudis and he knew very well that the Saudi security forces had surrounded the terrorists.

Gobins pointed out that Saudi students whom he taught have given him a very good impression of the Saudi society, especially the youths.

Dear Saudi4Ever,
Sounds legit to me - EFL teachers in the Kingdom being almost all bonkers, anyways.
Regards,
John
P.S. I meant "bonkers" in the nicest possible way, of course.

Not sure he's that bonkers! If he got any good pictures they would have been worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Would it be any riskier a way of ensuring your retirement than doing a few more years here in present circumstances?

Slats,

That would a few snow bricks short of an igloo, not bonkers. Come on, get your lingo right! (no one ever claimed we Canucks were bright. Self-righteous maybe).

Dear ntrophy,
Quite right. I apologize my imprecise use of approved psychological terminology.
As Mr. Jones pointed out, though, in any case, the gentleman might be crazy like a fox.
Regards,
John
