Taiwan is cheaper, but the salaries are generally quite a bit lower. The air pollution is less than it used to be (talking about Taipei) before the subway and elevated rail lines were built, but the air quality is still not very good. Seoul has the same problem, where the air quality is better than in Bangkok or Jakarta, but not as good as Tokyo (on par with NYC or London, even though those cities have a lot more park areas).

No, there are about the same amount. Some of them still misunderstand how foreign teachers teach English here, assuming we follow the local standard of mostly teacher centered classes (not all, but you see some of this practiced by the local lecturers even at the uni level).
Of course, some people just didn't enjoy/aren't enjoying their time in Japan, and of course are 'eager' to share their tales of woe. |

| I did a round-trip of teaching in East Asia and I foud Japan to be "the coolest". Is this still the case? |

Oh yeah, if you teach in Taiwan, you PPP live a lot better off. Same with SK. For teachers Japan must be one of the worst places PPP. |
PPP is not the same thing as quality of life. |
Of course not. But it does show how well you can live in an area. PPP is not the end all be all of QOL.
Though I did like Taiwan. It doesn't seem as polluted as many make it out to be. Besides the East coast is AMAZING! |

I didn't like Taiwan. I lived in Hsinchu county and it was very boonie for me. |
