Hi, I know that for another country there is a list of documents that you need to get a job, and visa. They are:

cover letter
resume
apostilled copy of university degree
apostilled Criminal Record Check
university transcripts
2 letters of recommendation

Can you please tell me which of these are not required by China, if any?
If I'm missing any for China, can you tell me what they are?

generally speaking you need the original copy of your degree certificate.

Transcripts / apostilled copies may cause problems or be insufficient.
You'd send copies to propsective employers, along with your CV and a copy of your passport informtaion page.

I am of course making a generalisation. Big country.

Thanks. Do you not need the other stuff I had on the list? All you need is your degree, CV, and passport info?

generally speaking, you don't need originals of anything other
than your passport (and chinese release letter if any).

cover letter NO

attach your resume to an email. the email says 'hi, i'd like to teach at
your school.' good enough.

resume YES

will be submitted to foreign affairs office to apply for work permit.

apostilled copy of university degree NO

scanned copy is usually sufficient. some schools may ask to see
the original.

apostilled Criminal Record Check NO

not required for chinese visa

university transcripts NO

not needed

2 letters of recommendation NO

letter of release or recommendation letter from previous chinese
employer needed if applying for another position in china.

you also may (or may not) need a health exam report. depends on
city or school or province or embassy.

Personally I've never needed my original degrees, but some people say you do. I think maybe some provinces require it.

apostilled

Don't waste your time or money on this yet

make clear nice scans of your documents in jpg and /or doc formats

For safety sake bring the original degree or if your school gave you a laminated wallet size one bring it.

never been asked for transcripts or recommendation letters - only the standard release from a prior school. (release - recommendation letter from China employers)

Nor have I. I've applied for positions in almost every province and have never been asked.

I showed my current employer my cert and they didn't know what it was. I've never been asked for that either.

My employer said I didn't have a 'TEFL', when I replied I had a CELTA he just said 'but that's not a TEFL'...... Yet a non-native English teacher, who did an online cert that had the word 'master' in it, goes around proclaiming they've got a master's degree and is treated as such... Welcome to China.

I've had schools looking at my CELTA certificate and saying
"What's this?"

Presumably you mean Korea. China is hugely different in that in general Korea applies the laws and requirements regarding visas across the country. China doesn't do this kind of thing uniformly and hence different rules apply depending on province, particular PSB office, the PSB officer your school deals with, guangxi your potential employer has with the powers that be, how willing your boss is to bend the rules a little, day of the week, the weather outside etc.
Some schools and provinces require reference letters confirming 2 years of previous employment, others don't. Some need TEFL certs, others don't. There's rumors of some provinces now requiring criminal checks from home (Henan for example), medical checks needed in advance, other times not.
Get the basics and confirm the exact paperwork required when you have a decent school lined up.
Apostilles are needed (yet), thank god.

Maybe I should show my certificate that says "ASE Master Heavy Duty Truck Technician" and then they will think I also have a "Masters Degree?"
