I have an MA in TESOL and 10+ experience teaching in universities. I am thinking about working in Japan; particularly in a university. My questions are as follows:

1) Can I bring my family with me?
2) Will the university pay for my son's schooling?
3) Do most univeristies provide housing?

Any information you can offer is appreciated.

1) Can I bring my family with me?
Nobody will stop you. The main thing to consider is whether you will make enough to support them (or if your spouse will work, too).

2) Will the university pay for my son's schooling?
No.

3) Do most univeristies provide housing?
No. You may get a small stipend for winter heat in the colder regions, but not much more.

Do your 10+ years of experience mean you have a boatload of publications, too? You'll need them.

Thanks for your response Glenski. I coauthored a book sometime ago, but I don't have a lot of publications.

I'm presently in the Middle Eaast where everything is paid for. From your answers I will probably strike Japan from my list of possible destinations because I'm looking to maintain a similar standard of living or at least not lower it significantly.

Either way, thanks for your swift reply.

From what I have heard, you are going to be hard pressed to meet that standard elsewhere.
