How does the process of getting certified in Canada work for foreigners? I'm an American teacher inquiring jobs in public schools in general. I have a BA in English and a MA in Teaching. I do not have PR or Citizenship in Canada, so would they still hire foreign teachers? From what I've read so far, one has to be "certified". However, do we apply for licensure first or immigration? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Smile

Unfortunately Canadian teachers with an MA in TESOL and/or public teacher licenses are heading abroad due to a lack of employment in TESL. The demand to bring in foreign teachers for English/ESL is zero.

If you are fluent in French, you may have a better chance applying to live and work in Quebec.

Sorry, I just received your PM now.

Unfortunately, I do not think you could get employment even in the arctic due to immigration criteria. You can always ask though. Qualified literacy teachers are in high demand amongst native communities (and a lack of licensing can often be circumvented), it's the immigration issue that you will have.
