| I am looking at the option to start my TEFL career in Thailand, and wondering if I would have better chances of finding an entry level wage in late April or late May, as I would come at one of those times. I would prefer late May due to circumstances at home, but if its means a much higher salary (say 25,000 more baht per annnum, I would go earlier in April. |

Better to be here in April. Best jobs go first. Worst jobs go last.
The school break is from March to mid May with the bulk of the better jobs being filled in April.
Nothing decent (for the most part) is going to be found from abroad.
Agencies who hire from abroad do so because their local reputations are so poor that no-one who knows better will work for them.
IF you don't have a degree and/or are not a native speaker then early May is best (fill jobs that couldn't find "qualified" teachers).

I plan to arrive in mid-April and then complete a TEFL course for 4 weeks so be finished mid-May.
Would I be able to catch a good job in mid-April with the employer knowing I will have a TEFL cert in hand in May, therefore secure a better job?
I think so long as I finish the course before school starts, I should be in the clear...
I know a TEFL certificate is not necessary and some places won't care but who knows how much more competitive the market might be next year... |

If you have a degree (immigration/labor/TCT requirement) then the TEFL is a "nice to have" but not an absolute (you can easily get jobs in government schools without it).
If you don't have a degree then it won't matter since an employer who will hire you illegally won't fuss too much about your background, credentials or possibly even paying you (since you won't have legal recourse to complain).
