Ok, so as I am sure many are aware, the yen is doing awesome against the greenback. My question for those who are on the ground and can maybe gauge the next year's economy in Japan, think that this trend will continue and yield higher highs than 2012? |

I hope so as I owe my college an arm, a leg, and a firstborn. |

Abdulla wonder: Indefinite article with "first born"? Seriously? |

It's metaphorical speech, Captain Grammar. |

It's rhetorical posting, Major Payne. |

I really don't understand what's going on with your posts.
And "a firstborn" makes perfect sense in this context. |

I can just imagine Abdullah's students when they make a mistake.
"Seriously, Yuki, SERIOUSLY?!" |

By the way, in answer to the original question:
I have a degree in Economics. I am therefore qualified to tell you, with absolute certainty, that your guess is as good as mine. |

If you can actually do that, you might want to get a job with the Japanese Ministry.
Sorry, my crystal ball is broken. I doubt anyone can seriously answer your question. |

A humble economist. That is refreshing. |

When it comes to predicting money changes in the market, with a overwhelming number of contributing factors its really impossible to predict so far in advance. Hell, predicting what the rate will be in 2 weeks is sketchy at best.
my advice is to not even think about it, =) |

My answer was entirely serious. I do have a degree in Economics. My answer really is the best possible one. Anyone who makes the kinds of predictions the original questioner was asking for is a fool or a liar.
Even the best, most sophisticated, successful currency speculators are, in principle, no different from card counters at casinos. If you asked a card counter, "Should I put all my money on this next card?" how do you think they would answer?
Don't even think about playing the markets, unless you're in the mood for gambling. Start thinking about minimising your risks.
My strategy is very simple: keep some of my savings in my home country's currency, and some in Japanese Yen. If you need to do anything more sophisticated than that, you're asking the wrong forum. |
