|
Last academic year I rented a studio in Valencia from an agency. At the end of it I was supposed to get my deposit back but only got part of it as they said they had to wait for final bills and for the owner to inspect. I took photos of the place before leaving to protect myself in the event of disputes and waited for the money to be transferred. That was late June, 4 months later, I'm still waiting. First they had to wait for the bills, then the landlord was on holiday and then from September they have had disagreements with Iberdrola over exact sums owed.... it's been one excuse after another. The last email in early October assured me it would be sorted the following week. Nada. I emailed again on Monday but haven't got a reply yet and when I do, it's likely to be more procrastination.
What can I do in this situ? I signed a legal contract which says that the deposit has to be paid back. The problem is that from this distance, it's considerably harder to find the info. Is there a consumer rights body I can complain to? The actual sum isn't huge but it's my cash and the whole point of going through an agency was to avoid this scenario. |

jonniboy,
I would post your question in the Spain section of expatforum.com It's quite a busy forum with a lot of helpful posters living in Valencia who I'm sure could help you out.
Best of luck with not getting ripped off by what is most likely an underhanded money-making tactic . |

I've used this guy in Valencia before. Reliable and does what you ask him to do, although obviously you'd have the weigh up the cost of his charges versus the money you're looking to reclaim. He will give you free internet advice and tell you how much he charges before doing any work.
