Face your own life, don't try to run away from your problems. |

Another update - I'm finally going to give it a shot. I'm currently in a job that has no career prospects and low wages, so I don't really have much to lose in that sense. As for the relationship, if I don't go I'll end up resenting her anyway. I've told her of my decision and it seems as though she's accepted it (to be fair I did specifically tell her when I met her that this was my plan in life). As other people have said I may well be romanticising TEFL. I've read up a good amount on Eikaiwa and I've visited Japan a few times, but I think that may be correct in that I still see Japan as a beacon of otherness, so perhaps either way it's best that I go. Either I'll get it out of my system, or I'll simply not come home. But it's better than sitting around always wondering. I've spent the last few years spending my money collecting stuff to relieve my boredom, and the happy consequence is that should I sell up everything I will get a fairly decent sum.
So onto the next step... |

Sounds good, just brace yourself for culture shock and make some connections. I found the hardest part was about several months in after the honeymoon is over and you start to get resentful of the reality. |

I would not reply except that you messaged me drawing it to my attention sort of giving me the luxury of having an opinion. OMG, Dude! Go already. That poor girl - two years on the string!
You'll probably both be better off.
The guy I left is now married to someone else and just had his first child. I'm teaching in India and just published my first book. We wanted different things. We got different things. Best of luck to you! Make the most of it! |
