|
|
I have been teaching in Mexico for two years where I met my wife (who is Mexican) and her four year old son. We are interested in traveling and are drawn to the idea of Turkey for the money. The idea is to live abroad for two years and then return to Mexico for two. We want to continue this until her son is ready for high school at which time we want to go to the US.
We will be ready to leave Mexico after I finish this school year the following June. I want to know from the experienced ones, those that have been and lived the culture, what they think about bringing a family along for the ride.
Thank you very much for your advice and experience. |

For the money? What money? Know something I don't?
Er sorry that your first reply is a negative one, but as a parent working in education in Turkey I can tell you it's pretty hard to save anything here. Unless you are both intending to work of course, but then there's the cost of childcare...
Nice place though. (Mind you, I also really liked Mexico and Guatemala) |

Depending on where you work (not expensive Istanbul) a double income with modest lifestyle will put you in a position to save a few dollars - like here in Izmir. However, you probably will need a master's to get a position that pays you enough to really save. |

Is your wife qualified to teach Spanish? That could be an option as Spanısh ıs gettıng more popular ın the prıvate schools.
Dependıng on whıch school you work for, around half your wıfe's wage would go on chıldcare/related expenses of some kınd (you generally get what you pay for ın for chıldcare so beware of cheap nursery schools) |
