Hi all,

Wondering if it's possible to be considered for a uni job in UAE/Qatar and possibly Saudai/Kuwait.

My qualifications are BA+Celta+9 years teaching esl.

I have taught for five years at a university (Seoul), two years at a British bilingual school and another two years at a high school (all in Thailand). I have also presented at some international conferences and been published a few times.

So, basically without an MA, do you think I would be considered in any of the above countries? Currently, I make about 5 USD a month in Korea at my current uni, working lots of extra classes. I'm not under pressure to leave, the money's good but I'd like a change of scenery.

If no chance of a uni job, what would be the next best option? Working for US/UK defence companies?

Thanks all. Smile

You might try applying at HCT in the UAE. While most universities will want (and likely be able to get) those with an MA, HCT has many branches and thus does a lot of hiring. They would like your presentations and published work.

The catch may be that without an MA, the salary wouldn't be much better than Korea, and they are a pretty high pressure employer too.

Scot, did you work with KFUPM's branch HBCC?
And how did you find them?

I did time at KFUPM Main Campus in Dhahran and then at HBCC (Hafr Al Batin Community College).

Remembering that "Hafr Al Batin" translates as "Hollow of Desolation", I can state that they were both good places to work.

Dear scot47,

But how did you find them? Did you have a map?

Regards,
John

Thanks a lot veiledsentiments. Smile

FYI, I applied there yesterday.

Which sites do you recommend for jobs besides here? From what I've read in The UAE (and Qatar?), applicants apply directly to the Uni (on the uni website) but it's a little different for Saudi and Kuwait (through recruiters and job sites?)
