BAC has done very well by me so far, but I am only four days in. They are now asking me if I wouldn't like to move to Reotov, since they have a vacancy there that they need filled. The obvious benefit is a shorter commute to work, the obvious disadvantage is a longer commute to the city center where I was hoping to see some live music and maybe meet a girl once my Russian improves. Need advice. |

Reutov doesn't seem to be that far from the center (just outside the MKAD), so most of Moscow should be accessible on weekends. Also, I'm pretty sure there are girls outside Moscow. Though to be fair most of us never venture into the hinterlands behind the MKAD. |

And now apparently I'm teaching elementary English to kids. I'm totally unprepared for this. I just feel awful. |

Ok, keep calm and create a strategy. I know if you're a newbie it's easier said than done, but here's some suggestions.
Do a web search for general information about how to teach younger children. Also, look at the ideas for games and activities on this website. (Stuff for teachers etc.) Also use the following site:
http://en.islcollective.com/
Really good worksheets by experienced teachers with a database filter so that you can find what you want at the right level and for the right age. (It is free, but a donation wouldn't be unreasonable if you find it saving you again and again.)
General tips: Younger children need more activities, so it does require rather more preparation than lessons for older people. At the same time, there are plenty of quite simple things that will keep them happy. Also, mixed activities are better for storing learning into memory (richness of learning).
Do some research now, save yourself bother later. And as the good book (Hitchhiker's Guide) says, "Don't panic!" |
