I know that the Izmir branches (there's two, one in Buca and one in Konak) pay 16 lira/hour, and that's time-hour, not teaching hour. Since classes are two sections of 45 minutes that comes to twelve lira/teaching hour, which is insulting even by the standards of Izmir.

I know also that the Izmir franchise supposedly gets work permits for full-time teachers, and some sort of housing support for full-time teachers. However since at the time I interviewed with them they were only offering part-time work, and the hourly pay for part-time work was awful, I had no interest in pursuing a job with them. Despite supposedly employing several native teachers, I didn't actually meet any of them. I did get to look at the books though, and the books used seemed decent, if rather tattered.

I was told by some Turkish English teachers in Adana (none of whom worked there, but all of whom knew it by rep as a run-of-the-mill language school), that the Adana branch is a tolerable place to work, and completely independent of the Izmir branches. But since the terms offered in Izmir were so bad, I never really got around to visiting the Adana school (despite walking past it many a time). If it's indeed a franchised school, then you'll probably have to visit the Ankara branch and find out the terms for yourself.

And a Happy Teachers' Day to thee as well,
~Q
