About three years ago the university I was working for went from 4 classes of freshman to 5 classes of freshman in the second year I was working there, this particular school was really working hard to increase enrollment however.
Since that time I worked in a school that went from 3 freshman classes to 2 freshman classes and this year my school has gone from 4 freshman classes to 3 freshman classes.
I'm just curious what is the situation of the universities you have worked in? |

There might be more focus on writing classes and Chinese teachers teaching. |

There is less enrollment period. Many students are dropping out as early as middle school to become drivers and factory workers and whatever else they can do to make some of the big money they are hearing about. |

No, I'm speaking specifically about the total number of classes enrolled in the school. For example this school I just came to has 3 classes for 2012 and 4 classes of 2011. |

My uni has only 6 freshmen English Major classes. The previous 2 years it had 7. None of my classes is larger than 33 students and quite a few are 30 or 31. Previously 35 was about average. |

The place I am at does a 1+3, 2+3 and 1+1 programmes, and numbers a down a bit. Having said that, I am getting the impression that part of the reason for this is not because less students are enrolling to study English but because there are more of these types of programmes available (hence the numbers down with us might be up elsewhere). Admittedly they cater to a very specific demographic, as they require a fair bit of cash to be available for study in both China and abroad. But the expansion of alternative choices may be one reason why numbers in some places seem down.
Just a thought. |

My uni has 4 classes of English majors... around 30 each... and has had for the last three years. I am seeing an increase in the number of boys. Some of the freshmen classes this year have 5 or 6 boys, up from the usual 2 or 3.
