Hmmm. Delta's staff in Prague are less than stellar, but 193kg = 425 pounds, for the North Americans among us. She also had kidney problems and other health issues.
My two cents' worth; she shouldn't have left home to begin with. |

Morbid obesity. Of course PC means that you are not allowed to say that. |

Discretely in Czech, the Delta staff probably did say it.
But what could they do?
I still don't entirely get it, though. Did she go back to Hungary somehow after being turned away at the airport in Prague?
I mean, the Czech Rep's got a pretty decent record of good health care.....
Yes, I see she did go back to her vacation home in Hungary...
But, guys, she was really on the borderline wherever she was!!!

How did she get to her vacation home in the first place? If she flew there, she should have been able to fly back?
Though one wonders how she could have flown commercially in the first place under such medical conditions. |

doesn't appear to have been hungry for quite some time.
anyway, note that she refused to see a hungarian doctor, and may not
have seen one in prague. she was about to board a plane in vienna.
austrian doctor? if not, why not just take a train to munich? |

I agree that this woman shouldn't have been allowed to fly in the first place - she was putting herself at serious medical risk and potentially creating an issue for the airline staff. However, it's not often that I've seen/heard weight issues discussed in anything close to a respectful manner. My comments aren't aimed at this thread, but all too often so-called discussions about associated health issues are just a guise for some of the most vicious comments I've ever seen levelled at anyone. I think weight has become a 'hate' issue, but I see it as more related to disabilities, and this woman is in fact disabled.
It makes me think people who fall outside the physical 'norm' perhaps perform a useful social function in allowing others to feel vastly superior - not in bodily size - but in lifestyle choices.

Watch the PBS series Weight of the Nation. Every fat person they interview knows why they're obese. They have an almost uncontrollable urge to eat more and more. They love food. Sad to say but obesity is considered normal now, especially in the US. |

I noticed that at least where I come from in the United States (health-obsessed New England), the people who rag on fat people the most tend to be disproportionately smokers, so I'd say that it sounds about right.
