Well, OK. But only because Becker does in his Criterion.

Use them wisely.

I'll second Fluffy's license to use brackets (albeit sparingly and with care, of course), but the stats from a simple search are cause for worry, given that this is a forum for English language teachers.

Consider:

21 posts referring to 'loosers.'
83 discussing 'withdrawl' (from something or other, presumably very early 'withdrawl' from ones' own educational career).
151 posts referring to 'peopel'
185 posts spelling one of the foundation skills in our field 'pronounciation'
and.....

incredibly...

1501 'definately' misspelling a commonly-used word in the English language!!

Bong gets a licence (license?) to kill, I get one to bracket sparingly.

Cue Bond theme and hamster turning around to fire seed from cheek pouch: Da da DAH, da da DAH, dada da da da! ( Shocked )

Oops, yes, that should've been skunk, not hamster. And as for the seed from its cheek pouch, that should've been...well, you get the picture. Laughing

But seriously, all I can afford to smoke nowadays are Agio's "Sweet Orient Mehari's". Honest! But you'd think they were something completely illicit the way you have to ask for them now: no products on display, and if you can't name the brand you want (from memory and/or by showing an old packet) they won't help you out. Surprised The UK government especially still happily rakes in the taxes from these products, though! Guess one lobby forgot to pay the new going rate, and has no plans to release any more brands.

But was the context checked? Maybe these posts are all about people - I mean peopel - who are not uptight? Those who like to get on down and are always ready to play fast and loose? In which case, you'd really have to ask if there should be an opposite term: 'uptighters' (?).

Is there to be no room for a few neologisms in this new charter??
