No, as of today (11/26) I still haven't received my iqama - over six months now. I have received my medical card, and was told two weeks ago that my company was only 0.7 of a POINT over the line into the yellow, with two Jordanians no longer working that were still on their list at Labor. Now my Canadian manager is leaving in a month, so I will be the only native speaker teacher there. They have advised me to get the ticket for Christmas now, as there should be no reason why there is any more delay. We shall see. I have to talk to the owner tomorrow about it and I'll keep you updated. I've heard others in the community say iqamas are being issued slowly now, and every time I pick up the Arab News it seems they are always touting how good Nitiqat is for everybody, and how many Saudis are going to be working.
Yeah, right. Most of these young Saudi men are NOT going to work in the jobs that expats leave behind if they have to leave the country. And not many Saudis are qualified to teach English in an appropriate manner. These government flunkies are getting more distanced from reality every day. Guess they think if they come out as against the "foreigner" it will give them more wasta with those they want to cozy up to.
Thanks for caring about my situation, and hope I have better news to report soon. |

Yes, Jessie, after nearly seven months without an iqama, due to Saudization requirements, I finally got it today. I was losing hope!
Don't know if I can get back to the States for Christmas, but will very soon!
How's things with you? |

Congratulations nickelgoat! That must have been very difficult to live through. I hope you get out soon
Things with me are progressing. Waiting two weeks or so for medical results and hoping that my visa won't take months and months to get approved once I get the application in. |

A visit visa? Are you sure you don't have an employment visa? If the SACM processed your visa docs, then you're a direct hire. And you would have gone through a battery of med tests, submitted a criminal background report, etc. Moreover, a visit visa doesn't grant you the right to work or reside in the Kingdom; whereas, an employment visa leads to an iqama. Something's off here. |

Baa baa:
An employment visa is valid for 90 days; you're expected to apply for an iqama within that time frame. Maybe the '90 days' is what made you think you have a visit visa. Anyway, if you look at the visa stamp in your passport, it should state "entry visa" and not "visit visa." (That's if you have a photocopy of that page to look at since you currently don't have your passport with you.) |
