100 Pesos per hour for Cozumel? Doesn't sound like much. Informed opinions? |

@24 hours per week as well, correct?
Cozumel is a pricey place to be, but you won't earn more than that. Break even at best I think. |

An e-mail I received indicates the following:
100 pesos per hour
You will have 4-5 adult classes per day (ages 14 to old)
And 2 kid classes per day (5-9 and or 10-11) |

In an e-mail I received from the school in question...
"people come to cozumel to live on a carribean island, surf, scuba dive, salsa dance, etc. While the pay at my school is very good by island standards, that is no why people come here." |

Well, I was hoping for something from an independent source. Schools can make any claims they want. If the school is emphasizing the kind of lifestyle mentioned above ("surf, scuba dive, salsa dance, etc.") I'm not sure it sounds like the kind of place I would be interested in. |

I have a Mexican friend who lives in Cozumel. He's a SCUBA instructor and guide. Surf, SCUBA dive, salsa dancing sounds like what he describes--except they left out DRINK DRINK and DRINK. People go to Cozumel to surf, drink, SCUBA dive, drink, salsa dance, and drink. |

I've taught at this school and I still live on the island. The owner and management of that school will make for some good blog posts, if you're into that sort of thing. The pay used to be slightly higher and it's enough (depending on your spending style) but not if you intend to save or if you have student loans or the like. Groceries/going out are similar in price to the U.S. You can expect to pay maybe 3-4000 pesos in rent per month. And then of course diving and all those extras can add to your expenses. Let me know if you have any specific questions... |
