MOD EDIT
Hello Everyone -
I have a question about medical insurance for China...
I was offered a job in China.
My medical insurance will be covered by the school I will be working at.
However, I am married.
From what I understand my husband will not be covered.
Does anyone know of the cheapest way to get medical insurance for my husband?
I am not talking about medical insurance you get because you want to have it.
Im speaking of the medical insurance you get because you have to - its the coverage you are forced to get as a foreigner.
I have heard people talk about getting this type of insurance on a credit card because its cheaper.
And Ive heard others say they get it through their bank.
Im interested in the cheapest way to get the minimal coverage because I will be paying out of pocket.
Thank you ahead of time for your responses. |

Make sure that you confirm what type of insurance you have. Accidental? Comprehensive? Also try and check with the current/past teachers how good your potential employer is with reimbursements. I've heard quite a few horror stories of people fighting tooth and nail....and not getting anything. |

More importantly, read the book that comes with your insurance policy. If it doesn't cover a procedure then there's no point in trying to claim it. This is how some horror stories start. "But I thought it was covered." |

Once you're in China check out PICC (People's Insurance Corp of China).
This for local treatment and you pay the premium in RMB.
About RMB1200 per year I recall.
They have offices everywhere - look for big red and white PICC sign. Handy if you're traveling.
Good chance your school is insuring you with PICC and will be their basic policy. |

just tell the school you want your husband covered
with the same type policy as you are provided.
add it into the contract as one of the many changes
y'all are making. |
