Hello all

It looks like I'll be attending next year's IATEFL conference. Has anyone ever been to any of these, or anything like it? While I have attended a few ELT 'talks' and 'seminars' in my time, I've never imagined what a 4-day long conference might be like...

I have attended a few. Was at the 2012 in Glasgow as a recruiter and presenter. I have always felt that too much is on offer - and a lot of it is "DRECK"

Four days do seem like a long time for a conference. I do know that the length of the annual TESOL conference (Dallas 2013) is also four days. I would be exhausted after such a long conference.

Warm regards,

Pick and choose a few events. Do not overdo it. Expensive business if you are paying yourself. Of course the smart cats and the fat ones are getting it paid for by one institution or another.

Hotel accommodation for 3/4 nights will make a hole in anyone's budget !

Thanks scot47 - my institution is indeed paying for it, but (as you say) 4 days could drag a bit...

I'm a member, but their timing for conferences doesn't match well with mine in Japan, so I've never gone. If memory serves, half of one day seems reserved for tours or some such sightseeing activities anyway, and I would usually not want to take part in that because it costs more, and flight from Japan plus accommodation is expensive enough for me.

One doesn't have to stay for the whole conference period is what I'm saying.

Yes, went to a couple. IAWAFFLE as it is termed in EnglishDroid. Sums it up nicely.
