There is a plethora of travel opportunities within 4000 KM.
I like the food here, and it isn't expensive.
Salaries are great.

The pay. Free accommodation. Decent internet. Serious students. Winter. Vacation. No taxes. The Hash Walk. Proximity to cool places like Sri Lanka. The list goes on and on. It doesn't suck here, as far as I'm concerned.

Firstly I love Saudi Arabia, the students, the great work-life balance, the dream teaching schedule, the general and academic support I get at work ,the people, food, shopping and culture. Oh and the pay of course, although I'm probably one of the few people who didn't come for the money. I came because it is the birthplace of Islam and because I love the Middle East generally.

Teaching for only 32 weeks out of 52. Easy work load. Students who are often very likeable on a personal level. High disposable income. Exposure to a different way of life.

A lot less stressful compared with being a classroom teacher in Canada or elsewhere. A relatively easy teaching schedule. Good location, almost equidistant to many places - Europe or Asia. Good savings potential.

Another significant positive is the apparent lack of ageism in the Gulf countries. Some of the most popular teachers are often guys in their 60s and 70s. This would be most unlikely to happen in places like Korea, Japan and China, where older teachers are rarely offered the chance to prove their worth.

I'd say you've been a bit unjust to fledex. I think the chance to time travel is one of the major attractions of Saudi (and I'm NOT being sarcastic.)
