The American ones are jurisdiction-specific according to their website (here's a map) so it will depend on where you live. |

Thank you. What does a visit to the Consul with a COE usually entail? Will I need to leave it with the Consul, or will I wait in line and be able to have it taken care of in an afternoon? Pardon my ignorance. |

My closest consulate was the DC one. I had to leave it and come go back a few days later. I'm not sure if it differs from state to state, though. You should call the one closest to you and ask to make sure. |

When I got mine done many years ago in Chicago I went in the morning, the guy looked at the application and made some changes, then told me to come back the next afternoon to pick it up. |

Cool, thanks for the information. I will be doing some vacationing in Hawaii after I finish up my contract here in Antarctica, and will plan to have it done there. Will get in touch with them ahead of time. Sound good, thanks again. |

After I leave Antarctica I will be in New Zealand a bit, then Hawaii, and then maybe Ohio. Assuming there is a Japanese Consul or Embassy, would it matter where I take the COE to? |
You have to be able to go back to the same place to pick up the visa and your passport. If youve got a week or so the consulate in chch is worth using. |

Thanks G Cthulhu, I will consider that. I should be in New Zealand at least a couple of weeks. |
