The payout guy quite likes to be seen (and it's done in the open office, even outside on the quad in one instance) as firmly in the box seat as far as the laowai are concerned.

Sounds just like the guy who pays me, a real little pain in the ***. He likes to try and humiliate the foreigner every payday. I suppose when your life is so small and meaningless you have to get your kicks somehow.

His latest little trick was just before the winter break, he'd previously said that he'd pay two months salary (I get a paid months break and it's all in the contract) before the holidays. So in the office on payday he presents me with one months salary, I ask where the other months is and he says "oh, do you need the money" and then makes a big deal about getting the extra money together. All in full view of other people.
Sad little man.

@Non Sequitur. No, but I'm up in the north (Shanxi Province). Maybe all these guys swap tips about the best way to humiliate the foreigners, there's probably a website dedicated to it, wouldn't surprise me.

To clarify.
The nearest ATM that takes in deposits, is at BOC branch 30 mins away.
There are ATMs on campus that dispense cash and show balances.
All the students need I suppose.
