Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about or experienced working for this company.
It is the Intensive School of English based in the UK, but they are looking for teachers to send to Libya for 6 months or more to teach in Police colleges. The salary is �1100 plus + 600 Libyan dinars p/m for between 25 - 36 hours teaching.
Accommodation (own room in shared flat) and flights provided. - terrible or OK? They say that you can live on this 600 stipend without needing to go near the sterling income.
I am not familiar with Libya at all and have never considered working there but I was intrigued by this position. If anyone has any opinions or advice it would be really appreciated! |

I think by all accounts that is a horrible salary! You would want to be getting at least double that to even consider going to Libya.
Then throw in the 36 hours teaching plus shared accomodation - I wouldn't touch this one with a 10 foot pole. |

Lousy salary and shared accommodation !! NO THANKS. Grown-ups don't share !

It's a shameful offer. You can be sure that if they're offering you �1100 (and change) then they will be receiving 3-5 times that per teacher from the Libyan government, and creaming off the rest (while you enjoy your shared accommodation in a potentially-volatile, 3rd-world oven).
The sad thing is, despite it being such shabby working conditions, the company in question will probably be inundated with applications from desperate TEFL souls. Perhaps if teachers stop scrambling for these awful offers, employers will stop making them! |

A truly disgusting offer.
The money is completely rubbish, and no-one should be forced to accept shared accommodation with people they don't know.
As a previous poster said, if properly qualified teachers stopped accepting such insulting terms and conditions, then perhaps certain employers would be forced to forgo their attempts at such naked exploitation. |
