Hello there,
Are there any teachers there in Guangzhou, who can tell me first-hand about the air quality? Very polluted, semi-polluted or OK?? Compare to Bangkok if you know it. Thanks!! |

This isn't general; best to re-post it on the country specific forum. |

Keep an eye on the Air Quality Index (AQI) for an objective answer. http://www.aqicn.info/?city=Guangzhou
Above 250 is considered 'heavily polluted', whilst +300 is 'severe.' For comparison sake, it's currently 742 here in Beijing. One of the worst readings for years. |

I just posted in the China section, but here is something similar again: The air pollution in Guangzhou is less severe than Los Angeles in the 1970s and far far less severe than today in Beijing. |

@gingerlady
Think hard if you currently suffer from respiratory problems such as asthma. No doubt air quality indices are helpful, but if you have an underlying problem, any city with air pollution could be harmful to your long-term health. Perilla noted in a previous thread that he knew of a few people who had developed lung cancer in HK (non-smokers) so it is a real risk. Having asthma makes you much more susceptible to other problems such as bronchitis (from personal experience) so you might want to avoid cities altogether. |
