Does anyone know the state of the road going from the Thai border to Siem Reap? Drove that road once before about 5 years ago and it was a disaster. I heard it was now paved but I was told the same thing five years ago as well (and it wasn't).

The road is fine. IIRC they drive on the right side though, different from Thailand.

It is paved, but is still a hair raising journey. There are dips and rises in the road that will wake you from your daze in an instant, and dont expect to travel under 90 mp/h.

Sounds exhilaratingly dangerous or excitingly terrifying ... nothing like driving the roads of S.E. Asia to get the blood pumping!

Hoping to visit Cambodia sometime in the coming year.

It is a wonderful top-notch road! I had the enormous privilege of driving along it in 2008, on a short 3-day visit to see the ruins of Angkor.

Tis' bumpy, rough and dusty, but perfectly safe. Just don't go for a walk into the nearby fields - the landmine warning signs aren't always there Twisted Evil
