Hi Friends. I'm a PhD Fulbright Scholar. I have a great gig as a full prof here in Korea, but need to get to a uni in Shanghai after spring term for personal reasons. What's chances of a full prof uni posting with full prof salary? Have begun writing the six unis that seem to have English programs in Shanghai. Better strategies? Thanks for any suggestions or connections.

What about looking for an exchange?
If you look at the websites of Chinese Unis they clearly take pride in having visiting academics around for a semester or two.
This could get you to Shangers and avoids the age issue (if there is one).
Once here, you can explore the idea of a permanent job.

Good research. I've been lucky on the age issue and actually have a couple of good options available for next year, including staying here at my uni in Korea or returning to the Caribbean to my tenured gig. But there is a very important personal reason driving this search for Shanghai. Next poster, thanks for the idea on exchange. It might be a way to start. Any specific suggestions on people or places?

Hi, D - what happened to Cambodia? I've been imagining you at the Uni there! How did you wind up in Korea and what do you think of it there? I'm thinking of applying for a job in Seoul. Is your exit job/people/culture-related? I've looked at China, too. Hope all is well with you.

I expect if you have a specialist subject allied to the main concern of a uni you would be more likely to get someone's interest.
For example if you are a marine engineer, logistics, navigation guru, look at places like Dalian Maritime U.
If you are an engineer then any U of technology. If in the biomedical area then the medical universities. In respect of these, they are making a big play for the international student market and several teach the whole MD equivalent in English - Dalian Medical is a case in point.
Point to note re names of Chinese universities. Although they may have started out as a specialist school, they have, over time added faculties and are pretty comprehensive.
I taught English majors at Dalian Maritime a few years back and they had IT majors as well.

You would find it very easy to get a post teaching your subject at one of these provincial universities, but the pay may only be 8000-10000rmb a month even for a PhD holder.

The joint ventures such as University of Nottingham-Ningbo, Liverpool Jiao Tong and CEIBS Shanghai are the places that would have the kind of package you are probably looking for but getting a lecturing post at one of these places is HIGHLY competitive.
