Hi, first of I'd like to thank all of you wonderful people for compiling such a comprehensive database of information for anyone looking to teach abroad.
Every question I've had up to this point has been easily answered with a quick search.


That being said, does anyone know anything about "Cultural Embrace by API"? http://www.culturalembrace.com/

I can't seem to find any information about it. It seems like you pay them to place your somewhere and then once there, you begin to earn money. It sounds kind of sketchy, but I don't know.

NEVER, NEVER, read my lips... NEVER pay anyone for a job in ESL/EFL.

There are literally a million jobs in EFL open around the world.

As long as you meet the visa requirements (TEFL / degree / TOEIC / passport/nationality) for the country you want to work in, just google and get a job.
Getting a visa isn't rocket science and getting a job is even easier in most places.

Oh, and just a FYI..
They pay $175-$250/mo in Vietnam. The going rate is $1500.
They pay 18,000 thb in Thailand. The minimum for a native speaker with a degree is 36,000 ($1200).
The rest doesn't get any better. If you want to pay them for the privilege of working for free then sign on. They will certainly enjoy the fruits and profits of your labor.

These days, pretty much any time you see the words 'job placement' in this industry, it's either misleading or an outright scam.

TEFL cert providers used to (some still do) use this language to get people to sign up for their course as opposed to others, but the 'job placement assistance' was almost never anything more than giving grads lists of employers. TEFL grads were still responsible for contacting employers, arranging and going to interviews, doing demo lessons, negotiating contracts....all the normal real-world job search stuff.

The idea that some company has a list of employers just waiting to unquestioningly embrace their clients without all of the above normal process of selection is a MYTH.
